Workshop Safety
Off-the-job safety has become a great concern as of late, due to the increase of lost worker time from accidents in the home or on the highway. Many of the workers who are highly safety conscious at work, will often forget their obligation to safety when working in their homes.
The National Safety Council suggests some recommendations for you to follow.
- Wear safety shoes and gloves when you need them.
- Wear safety glasses or goggles when you drill, sand, saw or do other hazardous work.
- Keep your workspace well ventilated and well lit.
- Keep electronic tools and portable power tools out of the reach of children.
- Ensure that extension cords have the proper amperage for their use.
- Keep power tool guards in place, and be sure that tools are double insulated or well grounded.
- Disconnect power tools or lock their switches when not in use.
- Dispose of oily, greasy or paint-covered rags in appropriate containers with tight fitting lids.
- Store flammable liquids only in approved safety cans inside storage cabinets- never inside your home. Label them and keep them away from children.
